The Park

Happy Mardi Gras!

Zac's been getting overtime and keeping an eye on Dad has been taking its toll, so I've been trying to get the kids and myself out of the house a bit. I brought them to the park over by the Museum of Natural Science. We picked a good time as there was a field trip just leaving, so we had the whole area to ourselves.

Planetarium

We brought the kids to the Russell C. Davis Planetarium since we didn't get to go last week. It was fascinating, albeit fairly cheesy. The kids were so quiet, even Elias. Not a peep! At least, not a peep until we were ready to leave.

Mississippi Light Festival

Last week, when we were at the art museum, Jac picked up a flier for the Mississippi Light Festival. It had free admission, so we decided to check it out. I was expecting something along the lines of China Lights but it wasn't as extravagant. We enjoyed it, though.

Art Museum

This morning, Zac and I filed our taxes, visited Cups for breakfast (lavender Earl Grey tea is ah-mazing), then headed to the local library to renew my card and pay off late fees from 2012 (lol). Zac wanted to surprise the kids with a trip to the Planetarium, but there was a private "wine and film" event taking place. Instead, we crossed the street and visited the Mississippi Museum of Art. Neither big kid was excited about looking at "other peoples' drawings", but after a few exibits, they didn't want to leave. Being surrounded by art makes me want to start painting again, but all of my supplies are in a metal cabinet beneath a very large, very heavy doll house. Tomorrow, Zac may help me carefully move it so I can get my brushes and paints out.

ER

The past few weeks have been crazy with stress and worry over the youngest of our brood. Mom had the weekend of the 3rd off, so she offered to babysit the kids as a "thank you" for watching over Dad. Zac and I planned a date to see the new Resident Evil movie and maybe grab some sushi. Jac was keeping an eye on Elias while I was getting ready and I suddenly heard Elias screaming. I hurried to check on him and was told he tripped and hit his nose against the wall of his play yard. I consoled him and set him back down, but he started screaming again (not uncommon with Elias when he wants to be held). I finished getting ready, then held him while I waited for Zac to get home. I tried to let the him walk around, but when he stood up, his knees buckled and he started screaming again. I checked his legs, but didn't see any swelling, even though he's got chunky baby fat. Zac came home and Elias wouldn't walk or stand without collapsing in pain so we decided to take him to the emergency room.

After the first ER trip, we were told he had no "bone abnormalities" and we were sent home. He was still refusing to stand or put weight on his right foot, wouldn't let us touch his ankle, and woke up early the next morning in pain. We took him to a different ER for a second opinion and had a second x-ray (since the first ER refused to send the previous x-ray over) and were told by three different techs and doctors that there were no broken bones at all. However, he did have a confirmed sprained ankle. They didn't wrap his ankle as he's a mobile toddler and the wrap would only cause more discomfort. We were told to give him Ibuprofen for two days and follow up with his pediatrician. He had an appointment today, which worked out well.

Dr. Y inspected his ankle at his 18-month checkup this morning and said his ankle doesn't feel swollen and should start improving in a week. He's growing on schedule, gaining weight as he should, and is alread 2.5 feet high. He had his last dose of vaccinations, so he won't be needing anymore until 2019 (phew!).

Family Outing

Saturdays have become my favorite days as of lately. Zac's been getting us out of the house and we've been spending quality time together with the kids as a family. Today, we hung out in Jackson to check out the Highland Village shopping center where Zac hung a few banners. It reminded me of being at Epcot in Disney World as far as the stoned sidewalk and general look of the shops goes. Quite fancy. The kids wanted some treats, so we picked out gourmet popsicles from Deep South Pops.

We stopped by PetsMart on the way home to check out the fish and furry critters. There were actual scorpions at the Jackson PetsMart. Jac wanted us to buy one, but #nothanks. We're probably going to buy a Betta fish in the future. I miss having one... I'm sure Fig will be ecstatic.
