If you're bored then you're boring

It's been quiet around here. Honestly, there isn't much going on. I took Leah for her eye appointment about a week ago and everything looked normal as far as glaucoma goes, meaning it doesn't look like she has it. They're going to check again next year. She's happy, I'm relieved. The kids also finished school for the rest of the year last weekend so they're happy to enjoy autumn.

We were supposed to go to Sean's over the weekend, but Hurricane Ida passed through so he (and a lot of other people in Louisiana) are still without power, so we stayed here. Zac had a long weekend off for Labor Day and we mainly hung around at home. However, Saturday we met up with Mike and Ashley to buy some candy from Rocket Fizz.

But anyway, other than that, nothing to report. Occasional walks, the kids are out of school, and we've been watching Harry Potter movies.

Elias is SIX!

My sweetest pumpkin pie is six! He's been counting down the days to his birthday since February. We celebrated with an early party Saturday. Zac printed out a banner, which Elias was so excited for. We bought him a real bike and helmet, both Hot Wheels, and it came with a little car (which he also loved so much). His sweet little face lit up like a Christmas tree. First words out of his mouth were "Oh my gosh, I love it!"

We spent some time outside so he could practice pedaling. He fell once, but got back up. It was kinda hot, so I filled up the kiddie pool for the boys while the big kids played with water balloons. I cooked some hot dogs for lunch, then baked a wildberry cake while Cole took a nap. The cake turned out so good! We had Chinese for dinner and basically relaxed the rest of the day. I've had a headache, but I don't think I've had this type of busy day in a while.

He's learned to read this year and has been so proud of himself. I've been getting books from the library for him and Cole every week or so and he's able to read them by himself and sometimes to Cole at naptime. He also likes numbers and is always asking what different combinations are (even though most of the time he knows the answer). I feel sad we couldn't have a better party thanks to covid, but we made do and he said it was the best birthday ever.

August

It's been a while since I've been in here. Things have been slow or mundane or routine, so here we are.

Let's see. I started therapy. I don't know how I feel about it just yet. Mainly indifferent, not expecting much. Granted, I've only been to two sessions so far and already have my doubts because she doesn't believe Mom is a narcissist. Nobody ever does. However, she mentioned Mom thinks I have depression which is why she wanted me to see a therapist. I don't have depression. Next, I'm not going to school. I don't know if I mentioned that earlier or not, so there's that. I don't really see the point unless I aim for a degree in general studies, which I will do once Cole is older. I had a follow up with my GI doctor and he confirmed IBS and suggested I follow a low FODMAP diet as well as slowly reintroduce the foods I've been sensitive to. He acknowledged and validated my anxiety, which is always reassuring. Oh, and I just finished treating a UTI because I had to go to Urgent Care last week from urinary burning out of the blue. Thankfully, it's done with.

So, about reintroducing things. I had the most reaction to gluten so I've avoided it as much as possible. First attempt was to take a bite of a flour tortilla, note the time and wait for a reaction. I usually feel the pinching sensations within an hour of consuming anything containing wheat. An hour passed, no pains. A day passed, no pain. Zac suggested a trip to China Cafe for my sesame tofu... I was in. I had a small bowl, no pains. I can't even explain the relief. I'm still a little cautious, though. I don't want to overdo it and cause any affects. I'm just excited for carrot cake for my birthday. I don't want to go bananas with all the foods, so I'm going to stick to gluten-free per usual and eat whatever on the weekends. I don't want to gain all that weight back.

Not much else going on aside from the usual pandemic stuff. It looks like we're headed toward another lockdown since the conservatives aren't getting vaccinated or wearing masks and the numbers keep climbing. TBH, I'm not as anxious about it this time as it's expected. Zac and I have some plans in the event a lockdown happens, but I'll share more on that if the time comes. Meanwhile, we're doing our part.
