College stuff and Toby

I was approved for a grant that will pay for the majority of my classes, so that's cool. I will owe just a bit out of pocket, but no biggie. I'm trying not to stress over finding time to study while homeschooling, but also maybe looking for work in January. It's a lot of knives to juggle, but I'm just thinking.

As for Toby, he had six teeth pulled so he's on an antibiotic. He just finished his pain meds, and pup-tip: put a pill between two pieces of cheese, using peanut butter to hold them in place. He won't take pills ever, but this worked. His antibiotic, however, is a bit of a struggle since it's a dropper of nasty liquid. I didn't know dogs could make disgusted faces til now.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out if we should make a trip to the beach before classes start and for Elias' 5th birthday coming up.

Father's Day 2020

My lovely husband celebrated his 14th year of fatherhood. Hard to believe we brought four humans into this world together, but he rocks out the Dad badge better than anyone I know. So proud of this nerd of mine.

College stuff

I received my welcome letter and applied for financial assistance. I spoke with an advisor this afternoon and have a class schedule. They're all evening classes, and all in-person, except one, which will be online. I'm excited and also disappointed in my past self because I could've had all this done by now. But, I was dumb and made dumb choices, so I've got motivation now.

Roller Coaster

This morning, I was lying in bed and just waking up, when Zac texted me this photo:

Me: Is that our car??
Zac: Yeah, Lawn mower hit it with a rock. Made a small hole and shattered the glass. On the drive to work the hole turned into... this.

Luckily, the city is going to pay for it so we won't have to. Safelite Glass charged $200 to repair the back window when it was Emily's car and some asshole smashed the window. Apparently, three years is enough time to up the price to nearly $400. Anyway, I'm just glad it's not coming out of our already linty pockets.

I packed the kids in the van, along with their swimsuits, to get Mom and head over to Summit to visit Carlton and Rachel in their new house. They've got a pool and some chickens so the kiddos had a blast. It was nice hanging out with Abbi and Payton, also. Abbi is officially graduated from high school, so she'll be starting college in the fall.

On our way back home, we stopped at Burger King and ordered some lunch/dinner for the kids since they were starving. As I was pulling out the drive-thru, I spotted a tiny turtle crossing the lane and managed to scoop it up and put it in a nearby ditch. Mom thinks I've got mental issues, but if that makes me a better person, I'll take it.

Oh, Zac brought Toby to the vet this afternoon because his breath smells like roadkill. They didn't charge us today since they didn't do anything, but he's got a cleaning appointment for his teeth on Monday. I'm going to see if I can add Ruby and possibly May to that appointment.

College

I finally got around to applying at college... again. To be honest, I don't really know what I want to do. I selected art and foreign language as my majors for now. Dental hygiene is appealing, financially, but my gut says art and foreign language. I was looking at the options and daydreaming and I had that feeling, like when the weather shifts to autumn and I pull out the sweaters. I'm taking that as a sign. It's only been a few days and I've been prepping my math skills with some of the kids workbooks in order to grasp everything. I've always struggled with algebra, so I'm learning how to do it. I'm hoping I can influence the kids that it's never too late to go for it.

Visits

I picked Mom up from the airport yesterday. She had flown to Waco to visit Meredith and her fam for a few days. This morning, the kids and I took a ride with her to Meridian to visit Granny. I've been cautious about visiting people and I'm torn between not wanting to catch the covid, but also not wanting to avoid people in order to keep my immunity to everything else up to speed. We had a lovely visit. Jennifer took my vegetarianism into consideration and the kiddos played with the dogs. It was nice seeing that Chewy is thriving.

I didn't get many pics this time as I couldn't get the kids to sit still very long, but I was able to bring home some leftovers.

This week.

Yesterday, I went to the doctor to see about the pains I'm still having around the area of my gallbladder. Katie suggested I may be dehydrated or have a gluten sensitivity, so I gave up bread on Thursday and started drinking water. A LOT of water. One of my least favorite bits of pregnancy was how often I was going to the bathroom, yet here we go again, except no baby on board. I went to my appointment for 3:30 and sat in the waiting room with a mask on until 5pm. I FINALLY got back to the room and talked over my symptoms. Just one. I have an occasional pinching sensation in my right upper abdomen. There's no nausea, no severe pain, no bleeding, no puking, etc. Just this pinching that's a 2 or 3 on a pain scale of 1-10. The nurse suggested I could have a gluten sensitivity, so to stay away from gluten (my favorite thing) for a while. That's two people who suggested it. As I've been gluten-free for nearly a week, I've definitely noticed the belly bloating is gone. I'm even back down to 135. So I pay $50 for a shrug and go home. I'm just aggravated. Even with him pressing and poking through my belly, there was zero pain spots. Nothing felt off to him, nothing felt swollen.  Grr. I didn't get out of there til after 5:30, so I wasn't able to get the big kids' glasses.

Today, Zac had to get up super early to take Mom to the airport for her Texas trip. He was able to come home for lunch and stay with the kids so I could go to my dental appointment for 11:30 and get my permanent crown placed on my tooth. Luckily, it wasn't scary and my bite feels normal. After the dentist, I came home to relieve Zac so he could go back to work. At 3, I brought all the kids with me to bring Cole to his wellness appointment. He had his last vaccination until 2022, but OMG he freaked out when they tried to weigh and measure him, freaked out when Dr. Y tried to examine him, and freaked out when the nurse walked in. My poor bear. He's healthy though, a little tiny for his age, but so were the rest of my kids. We don't go back until November.

After the wellness check, I brought us to pick up Jac's and Leah's new eyeglasses. They look super adorable and hopefully help improve Jac's mild headaches and Leah's focus.
