Jac Graduates Kindergarten

Jac has officially graduated from Kindergarten! I'm so proud of my little man. I can't believe the school year has passed already.

Jac is Six!

Jac is six today!

Zac and I brought Leah to Jac's school to eat lunch with him for his birthday. His face lit up when he saw us! We brought cupcakes for his class and the other kids stood around him to sing a birthday song. He picked six friends to be his candles. We handed out the cupcakes and watched a slideshow of his field day, then we left when he went to recess. He came home with a green dot today!

Zombie Mode

Jac was up at 4am this morning needing a quick breathing treatment, then Leah woke up at 6:30. I was about to go to bed, but Emily wanted to hang out, so I basically have not slept much. I'm so tired.

Birthday Prep

I managed to get to the dentist for a cleaning. I don't think I've had a cleaning in about... three years? I have to go back to get one of my fillings filed down since it has a sharp edge and has the potential to break. I have one cavity underneath a previous filling and another cavity on one of my molars. Other than that, everything is peachy. I can't stop licking my teeth! They're just so clean.

I unloaded a bunch of boxes at work, so my back is killing me. I've also come to hate when people refer to a fragrance as a flavor. It's just bizarre to me. You don't taste it!

I baked so much cake Thursday night! I made red velvet cupcakes, almond cupcakes, plus two miniature four-layered cakes (one of each flavor) for the kids.

Sean is staying with us this weekend. He's going to make Chicken Marsala tomorrow and then we're going to Aidan's first birthday party.

Spring Time Grilling

Sean came to visit this weekend. We spent most of the day outside grilling burgers and hot dogs and enjoying the last bit of spring weather. Zac made some pretty awesome fruit and veggie kabobs.

Easter 2012

When I was little, I think we only dyed Easter eggs once because Emily and I used to play with the colored ones and hide them over and over again (yes, the boiled eggs). One day, a few weeks later, we started smelling something foul in our bedroom. Upon searching, we discovered a single forgotten egg, absolutely rotten and absolutely disgusting. Dad forbade anymore boiled eggs and we've used plastic ever since. So this year, we decided to color eggs and use them for breakfast later during the week.

Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, & Fish

Jac lost his second tooth last night! Excuse the messy mouth.

He's been feeling better and can eat more than just popsicles, even though he doesn't want to. He missed his pizza, though!

We brought the kiddos to the mall for pictures with the Easter Bunny. They were so comfortable. Neither were afraid or tried to get down.

Zac bought the kids a fish. They named him "Dark Vader"... not Darth Vader, apparently. I asked "Are you sure you don't mean 'Darth?'" and they insisted that "Dark" is correct. Okie dokie.

Tonsillectomy

Jac had his tonsils removed today. He was so nervous when we first arrived at the hospital and felt embarrassed to wear the "girly dress" instead of his own clothes. He relaxed once the doctor said they'd put him to sleep before they started the IV so he wouldn't feel it. I had to leave him to go to work, but Zac said everything went quickly and smoothly.

He woke up asking for me, but he came home and filled up on ice cream and popsicles. His voice is so different! He sounds so much younger and so clear! I'm so glad it's over with. He can run and play outside without me worrying about him being unable to breathe. I can even tickle him without him having breathing difficulty! He's asleep right now, but I've got to check on him every hour to make sure he's not bleeding or in pain. So far, so good.

Tonsil News & Dental Rant

Zac's alarm didn't go off this morning, so he was late getting to class. He was let out early, so he came with me to bring Jac to the doctor. We talked with a surgeon and an anesthesiologist and both wondered why we hadn't scheduled this appointment sooner. Just by Jac's voice, the surgeon knew he needed his tonsils out ASAP. I explained to her that this was the second time we'd ever been to an ENT and we were turned down last time. She asked if he had ever been officially diagnosed with asthma (which he hadn't) because she said that it was allergies and not asthma causing his reactions. If something aggravates his allergies, his tonsils swell up in defense, which causes him to cough, which makes his tonsils swell up more, which means more coughing and a sore throat and  more swelling, etc.

We are going to stock up on popsicles and ice cream this week.

While we were in the waiting room, I was chewing my gum when I felt a crunch. Upon inspection, I found that one of my fillings in my molar shattered. Things like that make me queasy, so I called our clinic to make an appointment with the dentist for today. For the record, I'm never going to that dentist again. EVER.

The receptionist was incredibly rude. I stood next to the counter so I could check in. Woman #1 was in front of me. Receptionist helped Woman #1 and answered the phone. I stood there, waiting patiently. Receptionist calls Woman #2 to the counter to give her some paperwork. I continue to wait. Woman #3 walks in, stands behind me, and the receptionist asks her, "Can I help you with something?" So I stepped forward and answered, "Yes, I need to know if the dentist is available." She gave me an eye-roll and replied curtly, "No. They haven't returned from lunch. You'll have to wait." And wait I did... for 30 minutes. I was finally called to a back room where I sat in the examination chair. After another 30 minutes, a hygienist came in to ask me a few questions about why I was there, any allergies, etc. She performed an X-ray and left. Another 30 minutes pass and the dentist came in, asked the same questions, looked at the X-ray and left.

The dentist finally came back, mixed up some temporary filling-paste and applied it. So that was it? Apparently. During those aforementioned hours, I waited as the dentist performed two extractions on patients who came in after me. She managed to numb the WRONG side of a patient's face who was in the room across from mine. The patient only spoke Spanish, but her daughter was trying to translate. What I heard:

Daughter: You numbed the wrong side. She still feels pain on the left but she's numb on the right.
Dentist: No, I numbed the correct side.
Daughter: You didn't. She's still in pain on the left. You need to numb the left.
Dentist: No. I numbed her on the right because that is where the pain is according to her.

Ummmmm....

I paid and went home, then made an appointment with an actual dentist. I just can't believe it. Even the receptionist at the "good" dentist said my complaint wasn't the first she's heard about the clinic. Wow.

I just want my teeth to feel better.

Audubon Zoo 2012

Jac has been approved for a tonsillectomy! We see a surgeon on Tuesday to set up an appointment. I can't wait and I know he'll be feeling so much better. He's had some rough breathing issues this week. We had stayed with Jessie and Joey since they don't have pets, but Jac couldn't stop coughing all night. His tonsils were huge and he didn't sleep. It was pitiful.

This week has been a little busy, but fun. Zac and I went to Natalie's (Zac's friend from high school) for her son, Landon's, first birthday. We went to the mall and saw a glass display full of bunnies. The kids almost had a fit to touch them. One of the employees let me hold one so the kids could pet it. It was so soft!

We went to the zoo with Jessie and Joey, but Jessie had to get to work, so they couldn't stay long. The kids had fun, though. Leah has never been to the zoo and the last time we went with Jac, he was just turning one.

We went out for hibachi and it was so good, I had to blog about it.

Chalk

I cleaned off the back patio and bought the kids some chalk. They've been occupied for over an hour doodling colorful pictures.
